Induced Current in a Pair of Solenoids. Description: Determine the current in a secondary coil induced by changes in current through a primary coil (or the equivalent).
For each of the actions depicted, determine the direction (right, left, or zero) of the magnetic field in the coils and current induced to flow through the resistor in the circuit containing the secondary coil. The coils are wrapped around a plastic core.
1. Initially, there is no magnetic field through the secondary coil (the coil that connects to the resistor). After the switch is closed, current flows through the primary coil and a magnetic field is produced through both coils. Does the magnetic field that passes throught the secondary coil point to the right or left?
2. Immediately after the switch is closed, as shown in the figure, in which direction does the current flow through the resistor?
A. Right
B. Left
C. Zero
3. If the switch is then opened, as shown in the figure and before the switch is opened, does the magnetic field that passes throught the secondary coil point to the right or left?
4. If the switch is then opened, as shown in the question 7, figure, in which direction does the current flow through the resistor?
A. Right
B. Left
C. Zero
