An astronaut is working outside of the International Space Station when her propulsion stops working. She's floating in space, not moving relative to space station. Rather than have the rest of the crew break out the robotic arm to pick her up, she decides to use the tools at hand. The astronaut has a gun used for equipment repair that shoots metal pieces at a high speed. The mass of the astronaut and all her equipment is LaTeX: M_aM a. This includes the astronaut, space suit, the gun, and all the metal pieces in the gun. The mass of the metal pieces is LaTeX: M_mM m. The gun shoots out the metal with a speed LaTeX: v_rv r relative to the gun. Part A: Using the variables above, solve for an equation giving the speed of the astronaut after firing the gun once.

The x-coordinate of a particle in curvilinear motion is given by x = 3.1t3 - 4.9t where x is in feet and t is in seconds. the y-component of acceleration in feet per second squared is given by ay = 2.3t. if the particle has y-components y = 0 and vy = 5.0 ft/sec when t = 0, find the magnitudes of the velocity v and acceleration a when t = 1.8 sec. sketch the path for the first 1.8 seconds of motion, and show the velocity and acceleration vectors for t = 1.8 sec. answers: v = ft/sec a = ft/sec2

Aplayground slide is 8.80 ft long and makes an angle of 25.0° with the horizontal. a 63.0-kg child, initially at the top, slides all the way down to the bottom of the slide. (a) choosing the bottom of the slide as the reference configuration, what is the system's potential energy when the child is at the top and at the bottom of the slide? what is the change in potential energy as the child slides from the top to the bottom of the slide? (include the sign of the value in your answer.)
