Water is the working fluid in an ideal Rankine cycle with reheat. Superheated vapor enters the turbine at 10 MPa, 320°C, and the condenser pressure is 8 kPa. Steam expands through the first-stage turbine to 1 MPa and then is reheated to 320°C.

Determine for the cycle
(a) the heat addition, in kJ per kg of steam entering the first-stage turbine.
(b) the thermal efficiency.
(c) the heat transfer from the working fluid passing through the condenser to the cooling water, in kJ per kg of steam entering the first-stage turbine.

With the simplified model of the eye, what corrective lens (specified by focal length as measured in air) would be needed to enable a person underwater to focus an infinitely distant object? (be careful-the focal length of a lens underwater is not the same as in air! assume that the corrective lens has a refractive index of 1.62 and that the lens is used in eyeglasses, not goggles, so there is water on both sides of the lens. assume that the eyeglasses are 1.90

The starship enterprise is caught in a time warp and spock is forced to use the primitive techniques of the 20th century to determine the specific heat capacity of an unknown mineral. the 125-g sample was heated to 96.3°c and placed into a calorimeter containing 85.9 g of water at 20.0°c. the heat capacity of the calorimeter was 14.2 j/k. the final temperature in the calorimeter was 24.5°c. what is the specific heat capacity (in j/g°c) of the mineral? enter to 4 decimal places.
