Because of your physics background, you have been able to get a job with a company devising stunts for an upcoming adventure movie being shot in Minnesota. In the script, the hero has been fighting the villain on the top of the locomotive of a train going down a straight horizontal track at 20 mph. He has just snuck on the train as it passed over a lake so he is wearing his rubber wet suit. During the fight, the hero slips and hangs by his fingers on the top edge from the front of the locomotive. The locomotive has a smooth steel front face sloped at 20 degrees. Meanwhile, the hero's partner is at the controls of the locomotive trying to stop the train. To add suspense the brakes have been locked by the villain. It will take her 10 seconds to open the lock. To her horror, she sees the hero's fingers give way before she can get the lock off. since she is the brains of the outfit, she immediately opens the throttle causing the train to accelerate forward. This allows her to save his life. (Important: hero's weight=180 lbs; locomotive weight=100 tons, μk=0.5, μs=0.6)
(A) Draw a free body diagram for the hero hanging on the front of the train.
(B) Write algebraic expressions for Newton's Law in the x and y directions
(C) The movie company wants to know what minimum acceleration is necessary to perform this stunt. Calculate it.
(D) After the train has been accelerating for some time the hero's partner looks ahead and sees a curve in the track. Draw a new free body diagram for the hero hanging now with the curve.
(E) Will aII (parallel) increase, decrease, or remain the same? Explain.

(2) (a) you have a simple circuit that consists of only a battery (δvbat=1.5v) and two resistors with resistance r1=10ω and r2=5ω, connected in series with each other. what is the current running through the battery? (b) you re-arrange your circuit so now r2 is attached in parallel to r1 rather than in series. what is the current running through the battery? (c) you add an additional resistor r3=7ω on the same branch as r2. what is the current running through the battery? (d) what is the power dissipated in r3?
