It depends, every child is so different and if there are special needs involved this makes it even harder. Also every child now a days has a different situation i.e may have one parent or two, might be very shy or be extremely not cooperative
Children at 5 years of age usually see their parents as role models. If parents show good mores so will the children.
To communicate will children effectively make them confident, make sure they understand your idea. It's also important children respect their parents, don't shout at them or make the feel threaten, no anger can make it better.
