A two-stage air compressor operates at steady state, compressing 10 m^3/min of air from 1 bar, 300 K, to 10 bar. An intercooler between two stages cools the air to 300 K at constant pressure of 3 bar. The compression processes are isentropic. Calculate the power required to run the compressor, in kW, and compare the results to the power required for isentropic compression from the same inlet state to the same final pressure.
Reconsider question 2 (i) and include in the analysis that each compressor stage has an isentropic efficiency of 85%.
The two stage compressor of question 2(ii) is part of a regenerative gas turbine. The turbine inlet temperature is 1300 K and the turbine has an isentropic efficiency of 87%. The regenerator effectiveness is 80%. Determine,
(a) The thermal efficiency.
(b) The rate of heat addition, in kW.
(c) The net power developed, in kW.

What if? if the temperature near the cliff suddenly falls to 0°c, reducing the speed of sound to 331 m/s, what would the initial speed of the rock have to be (in m/s) for the soccer player to hear the sound of the splash 2.90 s after kicking the rock?

At a certain instant after jumping from the airplane a, a skydiver b is in the position shown and has reached a terminal (constant) speed vb = 52 m/s. the airplane has the same constant speed va = 52 m/s, and after a period of level flight is just beginning to follow the circular path shown of radius ρa = 2330 m. (a) determine the velocity and acceleration of the airplane relative to the skydiver. (b) determine the time rate of change of the speed vr of the airplane and the radius of curvature ρr of its path, both as observed by the nonrotating skydiver.
