When an airplane takes off it sheds a starting vortex. We have been using a horseshoe vortex model for the finite wing, but a square closed loop might be more realistic. Estimate the downwash velocity induced at the center of the wing by the starting vortex for a small plane (mass 1000 kg, wingspan 11 m, speed at takeoff 25m/s) for a distance from the starting vortex to the wing of 10 m, 100 m, and 1000 m. Comment on the magnitude of the effect. Assume standard atmospheric conditions and neglect the ground effect.

In a stagnant pool of water, a crayfish may spend much of its time lying with one side of its carapace near the surface of the water. in this position, it will move the walking legs on that side in a rhythmic back-and-forth motion. explain the likely function of this behavior.

(a) calculate the number of electrons in a small, electrically neutral silver pin that has a mass of 10.0 g. silver has 47 electrons per atom, and its molar mass is 107.87 g/mol. (b) imagine adding electrons to the pin until the negative charge has the very large value 1.00 mc. how many electrons are added for every 109 electrons already present
