Laboratory angular momentum purpose to investigate conservation of angular momentum by indirectly measuring the moments of inertia and directly measuring the angular velocities for initial and final configurations of a system.
1. as a the square mass is moved closer to the axis of the rotation, will the angular velocity of the rotating platform increase, decrease, or remain the same?
2. what will be the angle between the tension force in the string and the radius (lever arm) of the spindle in part ii?
3. derive a formula for the moment of inertia you will calculate in part ii in terms of the quantities you will measure in this lab.
