Scale models of the earth and moon
the earth is about 12,800 km in diameter and the moon is about 3,500 km in diameter. therefore
the earth's diameter is nearly four times the diameter of the moon. so, for example, if the moon
were 12 cm in diameter the earth to scale would be about 12x4 = 48 cm
the earth-moon distance averages about 400,000 km therefore it would take 115 moons to fill up
the space between the earth and the moon (12x115 = 13800 cm, about 50 ft to the scale in this
example)
in your kit you have a white styrofoam ball (formerly the moon) and a white marble. the ball is 3
inches or 7.6 cm and the marble 3/4 inches or 1.9 cm
these will be used to make your first scale
model
what should be the distance to scale between your model earth styrofoam bolt and your model
moonwhite marble
enter your distance in cm to the nearest cm

The period of a pendulum varies directly as the square root of the length of the pendulum and inversely as the square root of the acceleration due to gravity. find the period when the length is 144 cm and the acceleration due to gravity is 980 cm per second squared, if the period is 7pi seconds when the length is 289 cm and the acceleration due to gravity is 980 cm per second squared.
