Mr. Gregory, 90 years old, was admitted to the hospital for the repair of hip fracture. He sustained the condition during bathing when he accidentally slips on the floor. After a thorough examination he was diagnosed to have hip fracture and was scheduled for an operation. To monitor his urinary output, a Foley catheter was inserted prior to surgery. A few days after the surgery while recuperating, Mr. Gregory becomes febrile, and laboratory work indicates an increase in WBC. Urinary tract infection was ruled out. He was given urinary antiseptics to treat the said conditions.
