You start by adding the number 1, then once you get to the next number, you will add that to itself while also adding another number. Each time you add the number 1 to the the number, you will add 2, then the next time you add 2 you add 3, then the next time you add 3 you add 4. The pattern is you keep adding to numbers, each one greater by 1 or 2 than the last set of numbers. So it will be 1+2, then 2+3, then 3+4.
