(a) use the substitution method to justify that the given system of equations has no solution.
(b) what do you know about the two lines in this system of equations?

1. using substitution method
  3x -6y =-12
    x - 2y = -8
          but using the second equation;  
      x = 2y-8
thus, 3(2y-8) -6y =-12
          6y -24-6y =-12
                    0 y -24 = -12
                    0 y =12
therefore, we cant get the solution for y, and also that of x, thus we can conclude the above system of equations have no solution

b) the two equations represents two lines with similar gradients/slope and therefore the two are parallel lines.
  3x-6y=-12
        -6y= -3x-12
          y = 1/2 x +2 ; hence the slope is 1/2
x-2y = -8
    -2y=-x-8
        y = 1/2 x +4, therefore the slope is 1/2
