y: length of side of the fence perpendicular to the road

2) area of the garden enclosed by the fence: xy

3) cost of the fence: multiply each length times its unit cost per foot

cost = 6x + 8x + 6y + 6y

cost = 14x + 12y

4) cost is also equal to $ dolars times the area = 2xy

So, 2xy = 14x + 12y

=> 2xy = 14x + 12y

Also, do not forget that x and y has to satisfy x>0 and y>0

xy - 6y = 7x
