Explain in words the difference between solving an equation and solving an inequality.

In an equation, there will ALWAYS be one solution for a given domain. In an inequality, there can be MULTIPLE possible solutions. When solving an equation, you just isolate for the variable. When solving for an inequality, you need a couple of things in consideration:

•When dividing a coefficient to isolate the variable, the inequality sign will reverse. For example, -4x>16 will become x<-4 because you are dividing a negative coefficient.
•There might be a compound intequality which is a range of possible variable values (this is more complex). 
•Also, an inequality can have an AND as well as OR situation. This has to do with compound inequalities, too. It is more complex, but if you are in Algebra I, you will be getting to this very soon.
