Choose x to represent the 1st number in the sequence.
The 2nd is x+2.

The sum of these 5 numbers is 5x + 2 + 4 + 6 + 8 = 310

Thus, 5x = 310 - (2+4+6+8)        or    5x = 310 - 20.     5x = 290

Then x comes out to be 58.
