x-5y=-4

Make x the subject

x=5y-4...(3)

Put Eqn(3) into Eqn(2)

3(5y-4)-y=16

15y-12-y=16

14y-12=16

14y=16+12

14y=28

y=28/14

y=2

Put y=2 into Eqn(3)

Eqn(3):x=5y-4

With y=2 :x=5(2)-4

x=10-4

x=6

Hence x=6 and y=2
