HELP WITH MATH PROJECT You are a police officer in the foot pursuit of a thief. You are on the opposite side of muddy river as the perpetrator with a 90 degree bend in it and you can see the getaway car waiting for him. A map of the area is provided below (not to scale).

You can run 24 feet per second on solid ground when you’re dry, and slog through the muddy river at 2 feet per second. However, after coming out of the muck, you can only run 19 feet per second. The thief can run 18 feet per second on solid ground and follows the path around to the getaway car. (In other words, he does not get into the river.) Your goal is to get to catch the thief directly or at least beat him to the getaway car.
There are a few different ways you can try to capture the criminal: ( SEE PIC BELOW)

(A) What would happen if you tried to cut straight across the river to try to cut off the thief’s path? Would you reach the opposite side before he does? If not, maybe you can catch up to him before he gets to the getaway car?

(B) What if you ran straight ahead to where the river is a little bit more narrow? Could you catch him then?

(C) Maybe if you just stayed out of the muddy river completely, you could catch him. What if you were to run to the bridge? Could you get to the getaway car before he gets there?

(D) What would happen if you headed diagonally to the edge of the river, and then diagonally across the river? Is there a spot you can pick to cross over that will allow you to beat him there?
