Joseph is building a scale model of his favourite museum. He’s trying to decide what measurement he should use for the length of the main entrance. He’s using a 1:20 scale and the length of the actual main entrance is 140 cm. What measurement should he use on the model? A) Christyna bought a model train for her little brother’s birthday. After taking a closer look, she thinks that the measurements of the windows aren’t exactly to scale. She did some research and discovered that the passenger windows on the actual train are 160 cm wide and 120 cm tall. If the model train is supposed to be scaled down by 2:5, what should the width and height of the model train’s windows be?

B) Chrystina double checked the measurements of the model train. The windows are 62 cm wide and 48 cm tall. Are the measurements correct? Why or why not?

1- is the product of two rational numbers irrational or rational? first, make a hypothesis by multiplying two rational numbers. then, use variables such as x=a/b and y=c/d and the closure property of integers to prove your hypothesis. 2- what do you think the product of a nonzero rational number and an irrational number is? is it rational or irrational? make use of variables, the closure property of integers, and possibly a proof by contradiction to prove your hypothesis. 3- why do we have to specify that the rational number must be nonzero when we determine what the product of a nonzero rational number and an irrational number is? if the rational number were 0, would it give us the same result we found in part b?
