Wrapping Things Up This document outlines all the activities for your
performance task. Use this file as a template to record
all your results.
Your group has $120 available for the banquet. Any
other costs must be covered from selling tickets for the event.
You decided to take care of the major cost first–hall rental and caterer. Each
caterer you approach is associated with a specific hall.
Caterer One charges $45 per person. The cost of using the hall is inclusive.
Caterer Two charges $250 for hall rental plus $28 per person.
Cater Three charges $500 for hall rental plus $20 per person.
1. Write the equation to represent the cost of each caterer. Use C to
represent cost and n to represent number of people. (3 marks)
Caterer One:
Caterer Two:
Caterer Three:
2. Use technology to graph, or graph by hand (on graph paper- MUST BE
ACCURATE) each plan on the same set of axis (all three lines on the same
graph – this is not a scatter plot! You must have connecting line
segments).
Assume that a maximum of attendees will be 50 (you will need to adjust
the scale - wrench setting). Place a copy of your graph into this
document. You must have labeled axis!!! To label your axis on Desmos, go
to the wrench settings. (4 marks)
3. Decide which caterer to choose for different number of attendees.
Cater Choice (3 marks)
a) I would choose Caterer One if between ___ and ___ people attend
the banquet.
b) I would choose Caterer Two if between ___ and ___ people attend
the banquet.
c) I would choose Caterer Three if between ___ and ___ people attend
the banquet.
4. Which caterer is most likely the right caterer for your particular extracurricular activity? Justify your choice. (1 marks)
5. Estimate additional costs for decorations and invitations. If you are at a
lost for how much will be needed, take a trip through a dollar store to help
with your estimate.
What is your estimate for additional costs? Justify your answer. (2 marks)
6. Given that you already have $120, how much will you need to charge
each attendee to cover the total cost? Show your calculations. (3 marks)
7. As part of the celebration, the hospitality class will
bake and donate a cake that you design. In
creating your masterpiece, you MUST include in
your design three of the three-dimensional shapes
you have studied in this unit (YOU MUST USE THREE
DIFFERENT SHAPES - rectangular prism, cylinder,
cone, pyramid, etc.) The cake will be tiered, like a
wedding cake. It should be large enough to feed
your guests.
a) Using GeoGebra, or a hand drawn sketch (must be clear and
accurate), include a sketch with appropriate dimensions of the basic
cake design. MUST HAVE DIMENSIONS ON YOUR CAKE ILLUSTRATION –
whether it digital or hand drawn. *units must be included, length, width,
height, radius, etc. (4 marks)
b) Remember, the cake should be large enough to feed the size of group
that you are inviting, so you should calculate the volume of the cake,
showing your work. YOU MUST START BY STATING THE FORMULA OF THE
SHAPE AND USE THE CORRECT UNITS. Show all calculations. (5 marks)
c) As well, the hospitality students need to know how
much icing is required for the cake. Determine the
surface area that needs to be iced, based on the
design of your cake. The icing will only be placed on the exterior of your
cake, not under the cake where two shapes meet. (Remember that not
all surfaces, like the bottom, will necessarily have icing on them). START
WITH THE FORMULA and Show all your calculations. (5 marks)
Please help It will be really appreciated.
