justification: A tangent is defined as "a straight line that touches a curve or curved surface at a point, but if extended does not cross it at that point." As you can see in the diagram, the line does not extend, which means there are two common tangents. (this is actually a diagram for two common tangents im pretty sure. wouldnt make since otherwise)
