What does this answer mean? Like, what is a “solution set” and an “identity?” I know what multiplicative (x1) and additive identities (+0) are, but what is this? What is true for any value of x? That 4 = 4? And if so, what does that even mean?
Solve 2(x + 1) - (x - 2) = x + 4 for x.
SOLUTION
2(x + 1) - (x - 2) = x + 4
2x + 2 - x + 2 = x + 4
x + 4 = x + 4
4 = 4
“This is true for any value of x. The solution set is all real numbers. This equation is an example of identity.”

Solve the problem. a student earned grades of c, a, b, and a in four different courses. those courses had these corresponding numbers of credit hours: 4, 5, 1, and 5. the grading system assigns quality points to letter grades as follows: a = 4, b = 3, c = 2, d = 1, and f = 0. compute the grade point average (gpa) and round the result to two decimal places. 3.40 3.50 8.75 2.18
