An experiment is conducted to see if learning while using an online website is as effective as learning from a teacher who is lecturing. Fifty college students volunteer and will be placed into two groups. One group of volunteers will be given a lesson online and the other group will have a teacher explain the lesson. After the lesson, a test will be given to see which group, on average, scores higher. Which of the following should be done to randomly assign the subjects to treatment groups? a. Ask the volunteers if they are comfortable using technology. The ones that are comfortable are placed in the group to be taught by the teacher and the ones that are not will be in the other group.
b. Make an alphabetized list of participants and place the first twenty-five volunteers in the first group and the remaining twenty-five into the second group.
c. Let the volunteers pick which group they are in, because some of them may like to use technology.
d. Assign each volunteer a number from 1 to 50. Use a random number generator and pick twenty-five different numbers from 1 to 50. The volunteers corresponding to the numbers will be in the first group and the remaining twenty-five will be in the other group.
