Brendon claims that the number five has the property that the product if three less than it with one more than it is the same as the three times one less than it. Show that brendon’s claim is true and algebraically find the other number for which this is true ANSWER:
(5-3) * (5+1) = 3(5-1) (x-3)*(x+1) = 3(x-1)
(2 * 6 = 3(4) x^2+1x-3x-3 = 3x-3
12 = 12 x^2 -5x = 0
x(x-5)=0
x= 0 and 5
