Juan Carlos Smith wants to send a basketball to his friend Hakeem Olajuwon. He wants to
pack the basketball in a cube box. Juan Carlos wants to pack the empty space around the
basketball with 634.4 cubic inches of tissue paper. He wants to use a box that matches the
basketball perfectly. Therefore, the basketball will touch all sides of the cubed box, but will
have empty space in the corners of the box. Juan Carlos has determined that the radius of
the basketball is half the length of the side the cubed box. Each side of the cubed box has
a length of 11 inches. Determine the volume of the basketball and subtract it from the
volume of the cybed box to determine the volume of space around the basketball but inside
of the box. Use Pi = 3.14159 and round your final answer to 1 decimal place(tenths). Must
show your work for full credit.
