A sample group 7th graders at Westlake Middle School were asked their heights at the beginning of the school year. Their graph was shown to the other 7th graders. This is what some of the students said: a) Jose: “If they left a measurement of 71 out of the

graph by accident, to include it, it should be added

to the boys’ height.”

b) Lin: “The shortest boy surveyed is taller than the

typical height of girls surveyed.”

c) Sheldon: “Of those students entering 8th grade, the

boys will be generally taller.”

d) Jocelyn: “The volleyball team needs player who are

65 inches or taller. 50% of the girls surveyed could

make the team and 75% of the boys surveyed could

make the team.”

Write the name of the student you think makes the statement that makes the most sense based on the graph. Explain why you agree with that student.
