area of the base = (12 - 2x) (8 - 2x) = 12*8 - 12*2x - 8*2x + 4x^2 = 96 - 40x + 4x^2

height = x

Volume = (96 - 40x + 4x^2) x = 96x - 40x^2 + 4x^3

Equation of the volume of the box = 96x - 40x^2 + 4x^3

Zeros of the function: use the factored form:

x (12 - 2x) (8 -2x) = 0

=> x = 0, x = 6 and x = 4

Sketch of the graph:
