Sum of absolute deviation = 16  

mad = 1.78

Mean of data (u) = (sum of data / number of observations)  

( 4 + 5 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 8 + 10 + 10) / 9  

= 63/9  

= 7  

Absolute deviation = ( x - u)  

Sum of absolute deviation ;  

|4-7| + |5-7| + |5-7| + |6-7| + |7-7| + |8-7| + |8-7| + |10-7| + |10-7|  

3 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 0 + 1 + 1 + 3 + 3 = 16
