the area of a triangle is 1/2 x b x h = A

then, all of the areas added is the total area:

rectangle one + rectangle two + triangle = total area

(40 x 10) + (20 x 20) + 1/2 x (20 x 20) = 1000 yd^2 (don't forget to square the yards)
