A lab is mixing saline solution for a hospital. Saline solution is salt water at the same salt concentration as blood or tears, so it can be safely used in medical applications. Saline solution is normally 0.9% salt by volume. The lab originally mixed 50 L of solution but their tests showed that it was only 0.32% saline concentration. a) To fix the solution, the lab techs open a water spigot and drip 0. 4 L/min into the solution. They also add 0.01 L/min of salt to the solution. How long (in minutes) must they add to the solution until it reaches the correct concentration?
b) If the water and salt taps were allowed to continuously run, what would the final
concentration of the saline solution be if left alone for a long period of time?
c) Now suppose they must mix the saline solution, but it has to be done within 30 minutes. The only way to mix it faster is to increase the rate at which salt is added. What does the rate of salt addition have to be to reach 0.9% saline in 30 minutes?
