Here we see that the ratio between the research department and the sales department is 10 :1 ( 200: 20)    

Keeping the same ratio for the proportion given 400: 150  the $ 400 is multiplied with 10 to get the proportion of the research department.

Then we obtain 4000: 400: 150 which is reduced first by dividing with 10 and then 5 .
