f(x) = 3 - 2x

I'll assume that g(x) was meant as one fraction, giving...

g(x) = 1/(x + 5)  

(f/g)(8) essentially means f(x)/g(x) plug in 8 in place of x. In other words, f(8)/g(8). You can either plug 8 into the functions first then divide the functions simplified numerical values [this is what I prefer] or you can divide the functions first [keeping the x's]  THEN plug in the given plug-in value, in this case it's 8. It's all up to preference, I will be using the first mentioned order.

So you can do this to find f(8):

f(8) = 3 - 2(8)

f(8) = 3 - 16

f(8) = - 13

and now g(8),  

g(8) =  1/(8 + 5)

g(8) = 1/13

Now follow the instruction f(8)/g(8) , this is what we just found individually for each function above. You seriously just plug them in:

- 13 / (1/13)  

To simplify a multi-fraction like this, you can always just flip the bottom fraction and change the division to multiplication:

- 13 * 13/1  

= - 169

NOTE: Thomas did the second order I mentioned above. He divided f(x)/g(x) first without subbing in the values first then he subbed them in. I find it easier to sub in first then divide like I did above because it always seems to save on work BUT the order you choose is whatever you are most comfortable with.
