In a recent survey, a sample of people who worked at
AMAZON. com were asked if they took a vacation in the past year. The results included the following information: 70 people took a vacation in Summer, 48 took a vacation in Winter, 22 took a vacation in the Spring, while 12 took no vacations at all in the past year. In addition, it turned out that 10 people had taken vacations at all three times, while 32 had taken a Summer and a Winter vacation. Also, 16 had taken only a Winter vacation and 5 people had taken both a Summer and Spring vacation but not a Winter vacation.
a) Using the information provided, Draw a Venn Diagram that accurately
represents this survey data and then label the number of people in each region
of the diagram. Label the entire diagram with numbers and labels. Make the
picture LARGE so you (and I) can see it clearly.
b) How many total workers at AMAZON. com participated in the survey?
c) Based on the survey results, what is the probability that a worker at
AMAZON. com had taken exactly one vacation during the past year? Give a
fraction and a decimal answer.
d) How many workers in the survey took both a Spring vacation and a Winter
vacation, but not one during the Summer? Also, express the region(s) of the
Venn Diagram that represents this particular value using symbols and set
operations {such as A ∩ B …. etc}.
