Rebecca has 40 pansies left to do. In order to find the number of pansies she already has you multiply 3 and 16 which is 48 and 4 and 14 which is 56. Afterwards you add both of them together to get 104 and subtract  from 144 to get 40

Okay so, Rebecca has 144 pansies altogether. If she planted 3 rows of 16 pansies you would have to multiply 16*3=48 Then she planted 4 rows of 14 pansies you would have to multiply 14*4=56 then add 48+56=104 then take that number and subtract it from your total (144 pansies) 144-104=40 
She has 40 left over < That's your answer
