f(x) is normally the function of x, so whatever x is, when you plug it into the equation, you'll get an answer. f'(x) may be a corresponding point. Like, P is (0,1) and P' is (0,-1). That's usually what ' means in math, the opposite.

f(x)+g(x) =(x+1)+(2x)=x+1+2x=3x+1
