Which strategy would not correctly solve this story problem? A horse ate 11 apples. Six of the apples were red, 2 were yellow, and the rest were green. How many green apples did the horse eat?

Use logical reasoning. There were 11 apples to start with. Subtract the number of red apples (6) and then subtract the number of yellow apples (2). The number left must be the number of green apples.

Translate into an equation.

11 ā€“ 6 + g = 2

Use objects to model the problem. Put 11 marbles into a cup . Take out 6 marbles and then take out 2 more. The number left in the cup represents the number of green apples.

Draw a diagram. Draw 11 apples. Cross out 6 and then cross out 2 of the apples. Circle the remaining
