The higher education department of Holmes Institute recorded data on the number of students enrolled in the different study majors for the years 2018 and 2019. The data are stored in file STUDYMAJOR. Xls.

a) Compare enrolments in different majors for two years

We can compare enrolments in each subject for two years by using a clustered column chart.

I used Excel to create it.

After some tweaking to improve its appearance, I obtained the chart in the second figure below.

It shows that enrolment increased in every major except auditing, where there was a decline.

b) Compare percentages of enrolments of different majors over two years

I used Excel to calculate the percentages.  

The results are in the third figure below.

We can compare the percentages in each subject for two years by using a stacked column chart.

After some tweaking to improve its appearance, I got the chart in the fourth figure below.

You can tell by the lines between the columns whether a major has increased or decreased its percentage of the total enrolment.

For example, the lines for Statistics and Economics diverge, showing that they increased their percentage of the total enrolment.

The lines for Finance are parallel, indicating no change.

Those for Accounting, Marketing Management, and Auditing converge, showing that these majors decreased their percentage of the total enrolment.
