Atent manufacturer makes a standard model and an expedition model. each standard tent requires 1 labor-hour from the cutting department and 3 labor-hours from the assembly department. each expedition tent requires 2 labor-hours from the cutting department and 4 labor-hours from the assembly department. the maximum labor-hours available per day in the cutting department and the assembly department are 24 and 60, respectively.

the company makes a profit of $51 on each standard tent and $71 on each expedition tent.

let x = standard tents
let y = expedition tents

then x + 2y < 24
and 3x + 4y < 60.

the graph of these functions is shown to the right. since a negative number of tents cannot be produced, both x and y have to be greater than zero.

profit function:
p = $51x + $71y
what is the maximum potential profit for tent sales?
a. $852
b. $1,065
c. $1,020
