a projectile is launched vertically. its height is y(t), and y(0)=0 and v(0)=+20m/s. the acceleration due to gravity is g m/s2 and it is negative. if b> 0 and resistive force is f = -bv, then we have mv'=mg-bv. suppose g = -10 m/s2, m=1 kg, and b=1.
a) find the time when v=0. this will be the time when the projectile reaches maximum height.
b) find the value of y at this time.
now use that height for the next part. reset the stop watch to t=0, and the initial conditions are v(0)=0 and y(0)=that max. height.
c)do we need to change the sign of the bv term, since from now, the velocity will be negative? explain.
d)determine the value of new t when the projectile hits the ground. is it the same as the value of t in part (a)? if it is not the same then explain why it must be different.
