Can someone explain how to solve this? (not just the answer) : emily built a rectangular pen for her dogs. she used an outside wall of the garage for one of the sides of the pen. she had to buy 20 m of fencing in order to build the other sides of the pen. find the dimensions of the pen if its area is 48 meters squared.

The answer is 6 by 8 OR 4 by 12 metres. The way I worked this out was to work out the factors of 48. I wrote down all of them. I then labelled each side of the rectangular pen 1 through 4 (garage side being 4). I figured 1+2+3 must equal 20 whilst 4 X 1 or 3 X 2 must equal 48m². Knowing that, for it to be a rectangle 1 and 3 must be the sane as well as 4 and 2, I went through the factors trying to fit the numbers with this theory. Eventually, I found 8 and 6 work well (1 and 3 being 6 whilst 2 is 8) and then I found 4 and 12 are the same (1 and 3 are 4 and 2 is 12). Hope this helps with the picture I sent
