Given that triangle abc is a right triangle, select a set of possible side length measures.

There are an infinite number of sets of side-length measures that can make a right triangle.  It would take me quite a long time to write down all of them, and then an infinite length of time to upload them so you could see them.  Also, it would cost me a bundle to push all that data through on my wifi plan, and you wouldn't have enough space in your phone or computer to download them.

The whole idea is that a set that works MUST follow this rule:

The square of the biggest one

is equal to

(the square of the 2nd one) + (the square of the last one) .

Any set of 3 numbers that fits that rule can be the lengths of the sides of a right triangle.  

This was discovered by a math pro named Pythagoras, around the year 500.

what we need to do from here is find the circumference and then multiply it by x/360 since there are 360 degrees in a circle. in this case, x = 150, so x/360 = 150/360 = 15/36 = 5/12. the shortest distance along the curve from a to c is 5/12 of the distance around the entire circle (aka circumference)

c = circumference

c = pi*d

c = pi*24

c = 24pi

now multiply this by 5/12 to get

distance along minor arc ac = (5/12)*(circumference)

distance along minor arc ac = (5/12)*(24pi)

distance along minor arc ac = 10pi

the formula you can use is

l = (x/360)*pi*d

with

l = length of minor arc

x = central angle

d = diameter

which essentially is the steps we took though a bit differently.

when going up, he reaches 600 ft in 2 hours. remember, that he is going in a constant rate. divide 600 with 300:

600/300 = 2

assuming that he takes the same route back (meaning that it's a 1500 ft route back, you can solve.

note also that you are solving when he gets back to 600 ft after he reaches the peak.

first, find the amount of hours it takes to get up the peak. divide the total amount (1500), with the ft/her (300) to get the amount of hours (x):

1500/300 = x

x = 5

it takes jamie 5 hours to get up. now, he is returning down, and reaches 600 (his current destination). remember that he climbs at a constant 300 ft/hr. divide 600 with 300:

600/300 = x

x = 2

now add the two numbers together.

x = 5 + 2 = 7

jamie takes 7 hours to go up the mountain and reach his current position when descending.

(total amount/constant rate) = (time).

remember that it is a constant rate, so in total, when he gets back down the mountain, it will take the same amount of time as when he goes up. the total amount for the round trip is: 5 + 5 = 10.
