mr. anthony wants to know how some student athletes are improving in the number of push-ups they can do. these dot plots show the number of push-ups each student was able to do last month and this month. (file attached has an image of dot plots)

what is the increase in the mean number of push-ups from last month to this month?

Another way to say "mean" is average. To find the average you would add all the numbers together and then divide by how many addends you had. So to find last month you would add all the dots together giving you 160. Divide by 8 (the number of dots) and you get 20. To find this month do the same thing and you end up with 220/8 which gives you 27.5. So the difference between last month and this month (27.5-20) is 7.5 :)
