Former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court William Rehnquist once noted that more than one of the nominees to sit on the Supreme Court were asked by the Senate committee considering the appointments whether the nominee considered the Constitution to be a "living" document. Several framers of the Constitution also mentioned that they were creating a living document that would forever meet the needs of the American people. In an essay of approximately 250 words, explain what is meant by the term "living document" and present your position on whether the Constitution does, in fact, meet that definition or it is simply a document that has outlived its usefulness. Use specific examples of how the Constitution has or has not changed to meet the changes in American society. You may wish to propose an amendment that will serve to bring the Constitution back to life if you believe it no longer serves its purpose.
