Why were so many communist party members against the new economic policy?

The Communist Party members are particularly against the New Economic Policy (NEP) because it lessens their power over the nation. NEP allows peasants to make profits out of some of their products and small traders to make their own businesses. Vladimir Lenin revised his economic policy after the civil war.
