Friday, may 17 minneapolis, minnesota like every other day, i excitedly rushed back home to tell you about my new friends, only to realize that you wouldn't be waiting on the porch for me. i still haven't gotten used to your not being to welcome me back home with a huge smile on your face. i still remember how we would sit under the peepul tree and you would tell me stories of your young days while braiding my hair. i miss seeing that mischief in your eyes while you narrated the pranks you played in your childhood. most importantly i miss the laddoos you would get me from khan market in old delhi to cheer me up after a long day. minneapolis is a big and beautiful city. though ma says it is twice the size of delhi, it is as crowded as delhi. this city is full of huge skyscrapers, beautiful parks, coffee shops and fancy restaurants—something you would never spot in our crowded delhi. but, i still miss going to the local market and buying your favorite flowers for the evening puja. my friends say that the winter here is breathtakingly beautiful as the whole city is covered with snow. this is going to be my first snow experience and i wish you could be there with me. this story is about a young indian girl who moves to minneapolis. even though the passage mentions details about minneapolis, the narrator reminds the readers that she is from delhi, india. what is one way that the narrator does this? a. she says that she is awed by the tall buildings, parks, coffee shops, and fancy restaurants of minneapolis. b. she uses indian names of her favorite food and mentions her favorite activities with her family members in delhi. c. she describes the drastic changes that she has to adapt to in her new life in minneapolis. d. she says that she is excited to experience the breathtaking winters in minneapolis.

By the end of the 1800s, there was a change in the nature of the immigrants coming to the united states. immigration from northern europe—england, ireland, germany, and scandinavia—declined, while immigration from italy, russia, and austria-hungary grew. in fact, between 1900 and 1910, more than three-fourths of all immigrants came from these three countries. unfortunately, these countries were far removed england, the home of our founders, and the immigrants who came from them had a hard time adjusting to life in their new country.
