What did huck tell the two men who were looking for runaway slaves?

He told them that the raft actually had his Mother, Father, and Sister on it and that they all had small pox which prevented the men from searching the raft. Had they searched, they could've found Jim and returned him home in the best case scenario, if not killing him or beating him brutally. They even gave Huck some money to help him.
