The Korean War deeply affected the whole of the Korean Peninsula. It actually started before WW2. After the war ended, a line had been drawn between the North and the South. Both governments claimed the whole peninsula though. The North invaded first under Kim Il Sung, grandfather to current ruler Kim Jong Un. The South with help from the US retook almost all of the peninsula. However, after another shift in the war, it hit a stalemate; a draw. The borders basically went back to where it had been just after the end of WW2. No territory was gained or lost, only loos was that of lives of Koreans and other soldiers that fought.
