The Fourteenth Amendment was ratified in 1868 and provided citizenship to all persons born or naturalized to the US.

The Fourteenth Amendment basically stated no law could take away a person's basic rights. The rights of the citizen must be protected and are guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment.
