The image is referred to as "Tribute Attendant with Giraffe" and signifies the connections made by Chinese explorations occurring in the early 15th century (1405-1433). Zheng He, explorer for China met tributes from the Malindi Empire (current day Kenya) in Bengali. He was gifted with a giraffe to bring back to China. Later the emperor of the Madlindi sent an additional giraffe and a zebra to the Chinese emperor as a showing of good faith and friendship.
