How did norway manage to attack scotland as described in the second scene of macbeth?

In Act 1 Scene 2 of Macbeth, we learn of how the King of Norway and his army managed to attack Scotland. Norway managed to attack Scotland through the betrayal of the Thane of Cawdor.

Explanation:

William Shakespeare's tragedy play "Macbeth" tells the story of how one man's greed for power led to his downfall, putting the whole kingdom into chaos. Macbeth became so engulfed with his own strength and status that he grew vain and greedy, bringing doom upon himself.

Act I scene ii shows the scene where before Macbeth had become the Thane and eventually led to his greed, was just a general for King Duncan. They were at war with the king of Norway who, "Assisted by that most disloyal traitor,  The thane of Cawdor," attacked the Scottish army. The reporter of this news was Ross, Macduff's cousin who had come to relay news about the war to the king. But the war was won by Scotland, with the brave Macbeth's actions of fiercely fighting.
