Conventional wisdom holds that napoleon ended the revolution when he proclaimed himself emperor in 1804. in what ways did he continue the ideals of the revolution? in what ways did he reverse the revolution

Napoleon continued the ideals of the French Revolution in various ways: 

- the first one is the Code Napoleon, which was instituted in 1804 after his proclaiming as emperor. This code formed a sort of constitution, that embodied several principles from the French Revolution such as the abolition of privilege and the principle of equality-
- another example was the Civil Code,  which made the law based on secular (non-religious) principles and allowed civil marriage and divorce.

Napoleon reversed the ideals of the French Revolution in other ways: 

- he brought back the nobility, which was abrogated by the French Revolution.
- he also re-establish the Catholic Church in France, which was very against the principle of the French Revolution, as Napoleon understood that many French were unsure about the necessity of giving up Catholic belief.
